Intellectual Property Policy
Everything on Bakely Bakehouse — every recipe, ebook, chapter, photograph, illustration, graphic, logo, page design and piece of text — is the intellectual property of D G McClean Ltd (company no. NI726037), Northern Ireland, or is used under licence. It is protected by copyright, trade mark and database-right law in the United Kingdom and internationally. This policy sets out, strictly, what you may and may not do with it. It forms part of our Terms & Conditions.
What we own
- The recipe archive. Each recipe's written expression — its wording, structure, tips, teasers and formatting — and the archive as a curated collection. The archive is additionally protected as a database.
- The ebooks. All recipe books sold in the shop, in every format (EPUB, PDF and read-online editions), including their covers, layouts and chapter content.
- The brand. The Bakely Bakehouse name, logo, "Bake. Share. Celebrate." strapline, and the visual identity of the site and its social content.
- The site itself. Page designs, graphics, photography and code.
What your membership is — and is not
- Membership grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to view recipes on this website, in your own account, for your own home cooking, while your subscription is active.
- Membership is access, not ownership. No copyright or other rights transfer to you. When a subscription ends, the licence ends with it.
- Your account and login are for you alone. Sharing login details so others can access member content is a breach of this policy.
What an ebook purchase is — and is not
- Buying an ebook grants you a personal, non-commercial licence to keep and read your copy, on your own devices, indefinitely.
- It does not transfer copyright, and it does not include any right to share, resell, publish or redistribute the files or their contents.
Strictly prohibited
Without our prior written permission, you may not — in whole or in part, in any format, free or paid:
- Copy, reproduce, scrape, download in bulk, or systematically extract recipes or any other content from the site;
- Share, forward, upload, post or otherwise distribute member recipes or purchased ebooks — including by email, messaging apps, social media, file-sharing sites or print;
- Resell, sublicense, rent or lend any content, or include it in any product, publication, course, app or website of your own;
- Republish recipes with cosmetic changes (rewording, reformatting or translating a recipe does not make it yours — the expression remains ours);
- Screenshot, photograph, print or otherwise capture member content for distribution — member pages are watermarked to each account precisely so that leaked copies are traceable;
- Circumvent, disable or interfere with any technical protection on the site, including the member gate, the content deterrents or the watermarking;
- Use any content to train, fine-tune or feed an AI model, dataset or automated system;
- Use the Bakely Bakehouse name, logo or branding, or imply any affiliation, endorsement or partnership with us.
What you may do
- Cook from the recipes at home, and serve what you bake to anyone you like — bakes made from our recipes are yours (though the recipe text is not);
- Photograph and share your own bakes on social media — we love that, and a tag is always welcome;
- Share links to our public pages, the shop and the blog;
- Quote a short excerpt (a sentence or two) with clear credit and a link, in a review or article, as fair dealing allows.
Enforcement
- Every member recipe view carries a per-account watermark. If protected content appears elsewhere, we can identify the source account.
- Breach of this policy leads to immediate termination of the account and licence without refund, at our sole discretion.
- We actively enforce our rights: we issue takedown notices (including under the DMCA and equivalent regimes) to hosts, marketplaces and platforms carrying infringing copies, and we reserve the right to pursue legal action and recover damages and costs where the law allows.
- Circumventing technical protection measures may itself be unlawful under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and equivalent laws, independent of this policy.
Reporting infringement
If you believe Bakely Bakehouse content is being copied or resold elsewhere — or that something on our site infringes your rights — contact us via the contact page with the location of the material and a short description. We investigate every report.
The spirit of it
This is a small independent business. The recipes and books exist because someone sat down and wrote them. Bake everything, share your bakes proudly, tell your friends — and let them get the recipes the same way you did.
